PROVINCE DAYS - at a later date, due to the COVID-19 situation
Due to the COVID situation disrupting current affairs, the Jesuits of the Bombay Province will assemble at a later date to ponder what the Lord is calling them to in the years ahead, and especially in the light of the four Apostolic Preferences of the Society. Much pondering will also be on what God is teaching us through the current pandemic.
A significant part of the preparation for province days will involve noticing and making known to all some of the success stories from around the province, i.e. new initiatives, creative works, bold new steps taken by our men as well as our partners in mission. We hope to have all of you, our friends and collaborators, join in this effort in whatever way possible.
To begin with, we have come up with a logo for our Province Days 2020. This is the creative handiwork of Wendell DCruz SJ.
Here is a little background to the Logo:
GC 36 drew inspiration from the first companions at Venice. Their plans for Jerusalem could not be realized; so continuing to serve the poor and coming together in spiritual conversations, they determined the path ahead to Rome. Apostolically, we Jesuits find ourselves in a Venice-like situation today, discerning our way ahead.
The Spirit lead St. Ignatius and the first companions to Rome. Post GC 36 the Spirit led us, the whole Society, through a period of sixteen months, to discern the Universal Apostolic Preferences. These were placed in the hands of the Holy Father. He blessed them, and missioned us for the next ten years.
But between Venice and Rome was La Storta, that small, seemingly insignificant chapel on the outskirts of Rome, that left its indelible mark on the future of the Society (and every Jesuit) the unmistakable confirmation of the deliberations of Venice and of all else that would come their way in Rome.
In June 2019 we Bombay Jesuits begin, as a province, a process of spiritual conversations, to understand how the Spirit is leading us in the assimilation and implementation of the Universal Apostolic Preferences. We do not know what belies us in Rome, what apostolic challenges will lie before us. But between now (the conversations) and then (the implementation) will come the Province Assembly, our moment of ratification of all our apostolic plans, our moment of consolation, of confirmation, our very own La Storta.
Let us make that prayer of St. Ignatius our own, Place me with your Son.
