MPSM - Education for All, November 2019

These are some present day efforts of the Maharashtra Prabodhan Seva Mandal (MPSM), which is a Bombay Jesuit enterprise dedicated to the lives of farmers, adivasis and those deprived in rural Maharashtra.
I. More than 50 Years in Rural Service
What MPSM is doing today is - it continues its efforts over decades to save the environment, improve agricultural technology, support Adivasi education at the grass root, provide livelihood for poor Adivasi communities.
II. Saving the Forests
The degradation of forests is being countered in Peth, Surgana, Dindori and Mokhada Talukas with participation of local Adivasi communities. MPSM supplies varieties of fruit trees, medicinal trees, trees for fodder and wood to Adivasi communities who work to prepare the pits and nutrients for planting.
III. Improving Water Resources
MPSM promotes water resources through watershed technology particularly small scale water diversion structures that hold rain water for human use, cattle, and minor irrigation over longer periods.
IV. Promoting Organic Technology
Our field Staff guides farmers in the use of organic technologies to improve soil productivity, reduce chemical pollution, increase quality crop and fruit yields.
V. Women Advance
Adivasi Women are organised for savings, credit, income generation and use of Herbal, Indigenous Remedies.
VI. Education at the Base
MPSM's educational programmes assist primary school children in more than 35 villages, especially in English, Maths and Marathi. In addition topics of village health, social awareness, livelihood are discussed with the children. Using specially designed teaching aids: charts, videos, handbooks. Adivasi Women are trained as Tutors to the children.
VII. Hostel for Adivasi College Students
MPSM's hostel in Nashik accommodates 180 Adivasi youth pursuing studies in the city. In Ambatha village 100 Km from Nashik, MPSM is responsible for Middle School Boardings, with 350 Adivasi Boys and Girls.
VIII. Training Centre & Extension
The Training Centre in Nashik offers accommodation to groups that need training in agriculture and other development programmes.
Extension Services of MPSM reach out to 9 Districts of Maharashtra including Dhule, Nandurbar, Nashik, Palghar, Thane, Raigad, Aurangabad, Ahmednagar and Amravati. MPSM offers teaching-learning materials, trainings, demonstrations, field study.
Audio-Visual Materials are researched and disseminated for rural education and development.
